I'm Back!!

Ok, so it's official...I am a bad blogger!! I haven't blogged since APRIL 11th!! I don't think I can explain how much has happened between now and then!  I guess I will start by giving you a recap on what's been up in the world of The Statesboro Bride!

Sarah and Matt Nesmith were married on Tybee Island, GA on April 30th!  What a fabulous wedding and a truly breath-taking bride!! It was such a fun wedding and I am so thankful to have been a part of their big day!!

Justin and Jennifer Prince were married in Statesboro, GA on May 8th! This was such a gorgeous wedding set at the groom's parent's house in Statesboro.  Beautiful pecan trees offered a canopy over the wedding party as the bride arrived in a horse-drawn carriage!  It was the perfect South Georgia setting!

And of course, my sweet nephew, Wells Emory Persinger made his big debut into the world on May 3rd!  He's the most precious thing I have ever seen!! Such a great baby...and I'm pretty sure he's going to be a genius!!
I mean could the kid get any cuter??  Check out the cowboy boots!!

And now, I am looking forward to FALL & FOOTBALL!!  There is no better time of year!  Weddings and engagements are popping up all over the place!!  What an exciting time!
I'll be back soon with some great fall wedding ideas and of course more Do It Yourself Decor!

Thanks for stopping by!

Waiting on Wells

Now, you all know that there is only one other day in your life bigger than your wedding... and that's the birth of your child.  My best friend and sisser (yes, that's supposed to say sisser), Sharon, made her debut down the isle as a true Statesboro Bride to meet to the love of her life Brian on September 26, 2009 and today they wait...as patiently as they can... for their little man to make his debut into the world!

So, in the spirit of celebrating new beginnings on this wedding blog, I want to take just a few minutes to celebrate another BIG DAY!! I am anxiously awaiting the arrival of a little addition known as Wells Emory Persinger!!!  I cannot imagine anything more perfect in this world than holding this sweet little miracle!  I have been blessed with the most precious rays of sunshine by the name of Melanie Madison, Aubrey Jayde, McKenzie Kate and Ella Rae and I am ecstatic to meet my sweet little guy!!

This past weekend, we had Sharon's final baby shower at my home in honor of little Wells.  It was truly an unforgetable celebration!  My other passions in life...other than my horses and weddings are parties and entertaining!  And this was one of the most fun filled events I have ever coordinated!  Of course, I could never have do it alone!  My girlfriends and my hearts, Maggie, Mia, Tara, my Mom and Mom Number 2 (Kathryn) made this day possible.  We put a lot of work into it, and it totally paid off!

Tissue paper pomanders hung from the chandelier and the mantle.  Moss covered letters in the initials of WPE hung above the fireplace.  Apothecary vases were filled with chocolate treats and the most beautiful diaper cake I have ever seen...made by the fabulous Mia Hickman stood as the centerpiece of the dining room table.  It turned out to be a truly beautiful day to celebrate our Mommy-to-be and her special delivery!
I really am so blessed to have such wonderful women in my life!  Maggie, thank you for coming into town and helping me pull everything together!  It was so great spending time with you... you always have a way of chilling me out and making everything just work! Mia, you are unbelievably talented!  You made everything so emaculate and added such wonderful details. I am so glad that we had a chance to catch up and I am so thrilled you could stay with me! And Tara, you make every day so wonderful.  You always bring a positive, "everything is gonna be all right" attitude.  I don't know what in this world I would do without all of you.  Just like this party, you add so much color in my life...you chill me out, you add the details and you make me...me.  Thank you girls!! You are not just my friends, you are my sisters!  I love you very much!!
Mom, do I really need to say anything?  You make everything special in my life...every minute.  Thank you for everything you do for me, my friends and our family.  You always support me no matter what and I am so blessed God gave me an angel here on Earth.   And Kathryn, (Mom Number 2), your generousity always exceeds expectation.  You give so much to everyone around you, and even when you were admitted to the hospital two days before the shower, you were only concerned about how it was going to affect Sharon's day.  Your selflessness is something to be admired and I am so thankful God has put you in my life.

And Sharon, again I say congratulations on your little bundle of joy.  He is truly be the miracle you have waited for your entire life.  I am honored to call you my sister and share these special days with you.  I love you so!  Congratulations to Sharon & Brian!! I can't wait to meet Mr. Wells!!

Sharon the Mommy-to-be with BB & Granny J

Your B.D.K.!!

So, your big day is approaching FAST! Everything seems to be in order...caterer- check, florist- check, dress- check...the list could go on and on.  You think you have thought of everything, and you probably have.  But let's do one more thing as a "just in case something unexpected arises-you'll be prepared plan."  You will thank me later.

I'm sure you have heard of them before.  I call them your B.D.K's (Big Day Kits)!  These should contain all of the essentials you may need to counteract crises and are traditionally provided by your M.O.H. or a collaboration of all the girls in your bridal party.

Here is a list of some of the things that will make up your B.D.K. that you and your girls may or may not have thought of!

  • Advil, Aleve, Aspirin:  you get the point! You never know when a headache might sneak up on you, especially if you are just the least bit stressed!
  • Band-Aids
  • Blister Treatment:   Dr. Scholls works the best!
  • Bobby Pins
  • Bottle of Water:  ALWAYS stay hydrated!! This goes for the maids as well as the bride!!
  • Breath Mints:  Notice I said MINTS...NOT GUM!!
  • Brush/Comb
  • Clear Nail Polish:  just in case of runs in your stockings
  • Crazy Glue:  Broken Nail...not for long!
  • Deoderant
  • Dental Floss
  • Earring Backs:  Those little suckers slip off quick!
  • Embry Board
  • Eye Drops:  Keep those peepers from drying out... not that that's even possible!
  • Fashion Tape:  (double-sided)
  • Feminine Essentials
  • Hair Spray:  For your hair, or to remove static!
  • Hand Towelettes
  • Hem Tape:  This one is a LIFESAVER!
  • Lint Roller
  • Lotion:  For dry hands, arms and legs... nobody wants an ashy bride!
  • Matches:  To singe the end of unraveling threads on any garment
  • Mini Sewing Kit
  • Mirror:  Small enough to fit into a purse for those last minute touch ups
  • Perfume
  • Ponytail Holders
  • Q-tips & Cotton Balls
  • Safety Pins
  • Scissors
  • Scotch Tape:  You always need scotch tape...it fixes anything!
  • Sedatives:  Oneday, you might understand...otherwise, don't ask!  Haha!
  • Spot Remover:  I DO NOT recommend the pens... Go with the Shout towelettes...they don't leave lines behind
  • Straws:  Nobody wants to mess up their lipstick right?!
  • Tissues
  • Toothbrush/toothpaste
  • Tweezers
I know it sounds like A LOT of stuff, but most of it you already have...and a lot of it you can grab at the Dollar Store.  Just make it as easily accessible as possible!!
Happy Planning!

I Heart Stella & Dot!!!

So I have been thinking a lot about how to accessorize your big day.  And ladies, let me tell you... Stella & Dot is where it's at! I was introduced to the jewelry line by a great friend of mine, Stella & Dot Stylist Lauren Kirby and I totally fell in love with the designs this company has to offer!! There are SO many pieces that will accentuate your look and make your debut down the isle one to remember!! Take a look at these fabulous finds that will give any bride and her bridesmaids a look that will be loved by all!

Now, you ALL know I am a sucker for pearls.  It's rare that I don't have them on!The Stella & Dot Charlotte Statement Necklace is just that....a STATEMENT! The beautiful multi-strand pearl necklace is highlighted with golden chains and champagne beading.  The vintage flower accent adds just the right touch to this gorgeous piece.  And speaking of the gorgeous flower, check out this stunning ring to match!  Priced at only $39...it's virtually a steal of a deal!!

I spoke with Stella & Dot stylist Lauren Kirby of Jacksonville, FL to see which pieces of the jewelry line she thought could be incorporated into bridal couture.  She had some great input!  Are you thinking of taking your wedding to tropical heights??  Check out this stunning "Birds of Paradise" necklace! It's absolutely to-die-for and my jewelry armoire is screaming for it!!  How fabulous would this be for a destination wedding??  And in my opinion this is a necklace fit for either a bride or her maids!
Lauren also suggested this fabulous piece...the Paige enamel bracelet.  This could be stacked with several bangles or used as a "Something Blue" all by itself!! The Paige is made of hand-painted enamel and stones and will add a stunning touch!  I personally think it would look fantastic with Stella & Dot's Sunset bangle and their Sloane enamel bangle! I just love this combo!! It really creates a pop of color and will highlight whites and neutrals!

I also spoke with my dear friend Katie Thompson of Bluffton, SC... another Stella & Dot stylist and she thinks that the Sofia pearl necklace is a great way for a bride to go!! And Katie...I TOTALLY agree!! These pearls are simply divine! Hundreds of champagne and ivory pearls create a stunning statement that screams sophistication and elegance!

Ladies, there is SO much more Stella & Dot has to offer!! All-in-all....I'm IN LOVE with this company! They really know how to make a girl feel special!! If you would like to order any of these fabulous pieces, visit

Lauren and Katie will take care of all your accessory needs! Or, I will be having a party VERY soon!! So if you and your gal pals would like to see the jewels in person...let me know and we will make it happen!!

Thanks so much for stopping by!!

Green With Envy

St. Patrick's Day is approaching, and I feel that it would only be fitting to do a piece all about Green!  It's one of my favorite colors and is the signature of nature and natural beauty.  Whether you want an outdoorsy look or maybe something a little bit spunky, green is ALWAYS good!  Green can be incorporated into your big day using inventive, non-traditional floral decor that accentuates any brides modern sensibility.
And talk about modern chic! This cymbidium orchid bouquet is laced with lily grass. It's gorgeous...and so unique!! The cymbidium orchid varies in shades from citron green to apple green and have centers that range from white, yellow, pink and magenta.  These flowers are the epitome of luxury and style...perfect for any fashionista bride! And while they are uniquely green and yes a little pricey, they are distinctly floral!!

Are you a bride that gives all of her attention to detail?? Take a look at this next idea! I am in love!! This is a "Do-It-Yourself-er's" dream!! (In fact, I may be trying these out this weekend!)  These moss covered foam board monograms are just the right touch to highlight any isle or entryway with a touch of green!  And speaking of green... keep that in your wallet because these sophisticated accents can be bought for as little as $8 OR you can make them yourself for the wedding and keep them around for your home!!

And since you're dreaming in green...why not just go green in more ways than just color??  These days we should all try to be more eco-friendly, so for those of you who really want to be one with nature, here are some ideas that will wow your guests and set the tone for your environmentally friendly wedding!
Of course, let's state the obvious... your invitations can be printed on recycled paper...cute, but nothing that hasn't been done before.  Then of course, there is your venue.  Churches, ballrooms and elaborate resorts require quite a bit of electricity, so it would seem only natural to host your affair outdoors! Have your wedding at a local farm and have your caterer stack your buffet with fruits and veggies from it! Or have your wedding at a botanical garden and use their fresh florals for your wedding decor and bouquets!  For those of you however, who are concerned about weather, check this out:  greenhotels.com! Here you can find a laundry list of venues that keep the environment a top priority!

Hey, remember that local farm I mentioned a second ago?  Why not make the fruits of their labor the fruits for your escort cards!  I think this is a fabulous idea!! Not only is it eco-friendly, it's eco-nomical and your guests will be thanking you for the treat just as much as your wallet! Added bonus: the leaves of the pears can be made of recycled paper and attached with biodegradable kitchen twine!

And while we are talking about gifts for your guests, let's talk about wedding favors! Of course you could always do something edible such as candy or chocolate.  But these delectable treats are generally wrapped in not so green materials!  So instead, why not opt for something that will continue to grow and flourish, just like your new marriage?!?  Check out these adorable mini potted plants!  You can find these anywhere or grow your own!! Choose a clipping of your favorite flora...(may I suggest the Ginko tree?  It is a symbol of longevity and is one of the oldest living trees on Earth) and your guests can think of you every time they see their little sprout growing!

Get the Green Light and get to planning!! See you soon!

Pretty In Pink

By choosing the colors of your wedding, you are creating the tone and atmosphere for your event.  And whether you are a glamour girl or a natural beauty, choose colors that represent your style.

Pink is the color for universal love.  It is one of the most popular colors to incorporate into a wedding as it brings feelings of caring, love, tenderness, and beauty.  With modern incorporation of the color pink, through using strategic color combinations and brighter hues, one may create more of a whimsical feel, as seen when pairing Persian Rose Pink with a Lime green.

The great thing about pink is that you can always find pink flowers, no matter what the season! Of course, if you are trying to maintain a budget friendly appeal, do consider what blooms when.  For instance, peonies-one of my absolute favorites- only flourish in the late spring/early summer months; whereas tulips thrive in the months of December through April. Some of the most popular wedding flowers in pink such as the Calla Lily, Orchid and the Rose can be found throughout the year!

Another aspect to remember when you are using pink is to think about your surroundings.  Are you having a garden wedding in the spring?  Pink is a fabulous accent color to add against a background of fresh bloomed greenery! Use pomanders of almost any floral combination you can invision to accent garden walls, dangle from tree branches, highlight your isle or hang from your ceremony chairs as seen in this picture!
These modern pomanders of carnations and mums, dangling from white bamboo style chairs accented with a muted green cushion, can tie any setting together!

I'm "Tickled Pink" you could stop by my blog!! See you again soon!

Just Engaged? Let's Get Started!

So, your dream has finally come true!! Your very own Prince Charming has gotten down on bended knee, told you how much he loves you, and asked if you would spend the rest of your life with him! You are positively elated and somehow can't seem to come down off of Cloud 9... everything in life is nothing less than blissful and you just can't help but sneak about 5 million peaks at your now occupied left ring finger! Can life get anymore perfect??? **Sigh**

Sound familiar ladies??

Well, I have to say that I am absolutely thrilled for you! Now, let's jump from Cloud 9 back to Planet Earth and let's get started planning your BIG DAY!!! Here are just a few things to get you started on right after the engagement!  And don't worry, you can hop back on that cloud shortly!!

Chat with your Groom!
I know your mind is racing with the thought of wedding bells, but take some time to talk with your hubby-to-be and find out what kind of wedding you both want to have.  Of course the wedding day is supposed to be all about the bride, but make sure that it incorporates elements that make the wedding show off your "couple style."  This will be the first day you and he will be Mr. & Mrs. so make sure that it is just as memorable for you as it is for him! Everything is so much easier with a happy groomy! And hey, you might be sweetly surprised by the imput he gives you back! Maybe he has some neat wedding ideas too!!

Budget, Budget, Budget!
I know, I know...But it has to be done! It doesn't have to be as painful as it sounds though! Make sure that you sit down with whomever will be helping you with your funds and let them know what is most important for you.  Where do you want to splurge, and just as important...where you can cut corners?  Just off the top of my head, think about what can be budgeted for your ceremony, reception, wedding gown & tux, flowers & decor, photography, music, invitations, transportation, lodging, and of course don't forget about the rings!  You should also factor in the miscellaneous costs involved...accessories, gifts, and favors.  Keep tabs on your spending by going to http://planning.theknot.com/wedding-budget!!

Pick Your Date!
Don't wait around to pick your date! Wedding venues book up FAST...sometimes years in advance!! So sit down with your calendar and start circling! Do you want a spring wedding our fall? Start looking at your options, but be aware of a few things.  Keep in mind the weather!! (i.e if you have your wedding during hurricane season, a indoor event may be the way you want to go, or at the very least have an indoor alternative.)  Also, be aware of special days and holidays.  Having your wedding around a holiday has it's pro's and con's. Keep in mind that your guests may have standing family plans that they may not want to disrupt and be alert to price differences as seen in flowers and  lodging based on certain times of the year!  Or if your significant other and ALL of his closest buddies are sports fans...don't be surprised if he asks to have the wedding the weekend that the University of Whereever has a "by week!"

Start Your Guestlist!
It is NEVER too early to start on your guestlist!!! I can not stress this enough! The guestlist goes hand-in-hand with the budget, so the sooner you know your budget, the sooner you know how many people you can invite and vice versa.  You can always tweak your list down the road, but go ahead and get started on your A-Listers. Knowing how many guests you will have will make the planning process so much easier.  Plus, you will already have a good idea of who will need to be invited to showers and such!

Consider a Consultant!
Even if you know exactly how you will pull your wedding together, planning is not an easy task! There are aspects of your wedding that I promise you have never even thought about.  Consider bringing in a pro, even if it is only for day-of coordinating.  Remember, your big day is supposed to be one that you will remember as magical, unforgettable, so much fun and the best day of your life! Don't let it turn into a stressful, crazy, I can't find my vail kind of a day.  Relax, take it all in, because it will be over before you know it.  Let a consultant do your heavy lifting and let them make your day exactly what it's supposed to be...ALL ABOUT YOU!

Something Blue? Maybe Shoes!

We've all heard the old saying
"Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed...Something Blue"

Whether you are a traditionalist or not, this catchy little phrase is used at least once at every wedding.  Since I was a little girl, I have been dreaming of what I would use to fulfill the four "Somethings."  Let's see my old- I want to pin my grandfather's purple heart he earned in WWII to my dress, my new- there are a lot of things that will be new, but maybe a pair of designer earrings?  my borrowed- maybe my grandmother's handkerchief and my blue- Oh, my something blue- I know exactly what my something blue will be...but I think I will not divulge just yet!!
Regardless of whether you have been daydreaming for years or are so overwhelmed with the tasks of planning the big day, here are some ideas on how to take that old adage and put a new, more modern spin on your Something Blue!

Today, We'll start with shoes... not just any shoes, though!  Shoes so special, they could only be fit for a bride!

Blue Shoes!!
Make your debut down the isle in something so special it can only come in the form of Manolo Blahnik!! *Deep Sigh** How can we all ever forget the way we felt when Carrie Bradshaw unwrapped those TO DIE FOR blue Manolo's in her imaculate closet built for her by no other than Mr. Big.  For me, "Something Blue" reached a whole new level.  But, let's say we are on a somewhat more price conscientious budget... there are tons of blue shoes out there that need some praise as well!
Featured below is a selection I find to be nothing short of fabulous!  And P.S. ladies...the blue peacock feather shoes can be found at Frills n' Fancies in STATESBORO!!!

These are the breath-taking Manolo Blahnik's that helped fuel the fire for Blue Shoes under your wedding dress! They are just to-die-for! Cobalt blue satin with a crystal broach detail... absolutely DELICIOUS!
Price:  $945.00 Nieman Marcus

I know...you LOVE that peacock feather don't you?!?! I can see this paired with the sassiest little reception dress! Scott at Frills n' Fanices introduced me to these show stoppers right before the Statesboro Bride Wedding Walk and I have been smitten ever sense!  Ladies, get to Frills n' Fancies ASAP and snag these shoes!! They are made by Jonathan Kayne and are too good to be true at only $130.00!!!

These China Dolls are too cute!! And that's exactly why they are named the Nina Electra China Blue.
I found these cuties on Zappos.com and while they are regularly priced at $89.95, they are on sale for $65!!
Stealing in this sense is totally legal!

And of course for brides who are geared toward comfort these beauties come in royal blue and are made by ME TOO! They are too cute! And even better, you can find them on Zappos.com for the sale price of $62.00!!

I'll have more Something Blue ideas coming soon! In the meantime, just remember to make your "Something Blue" something that's all about YOU!

Starting Your To-Do's Before Your I Do's!

Okay Ladies, I was browsing around on some of the most popular wedding websites and found this little list of helpful tips for planning your big day! Every couple will tell you that the key to having a less stressful wedding is to plan, plan, plan! Of course, all the planning in the world doesn't mean that there won't be any minor mishaps, but starting your wedding planning early will certainly help to eliminate some of the issues!

Lose the Laziness

One mistake that many couples make is basking in the glow of their engagement until 4-6 months before their wedding date. Then they try to cram all of the planning into a too-short period of time. Of course you should just sit back and be thrilled about your engagement for a while, but then you've gotta get cracking!

Buy a Calendar or Datebook

Once you determine your wedding date, set specific dates by which you want to get things accomplished. For example, you got engaged in June, and your wedding date is April 24. On August 31, mark in that you want to have the ceremony location and reception hall reserved. Try to get as much done as possible in the first few months so that the last few months won't be hectic.

Set Aside Time

Choose a day of the week when you'll focus on the wedding details, or several days if you're pressed for time. Sit down together and plan. This eliminates confusion -- i.e., the groom thinking he's supposed to call and check on hall rentals when the bride already has it narrowed down to what will suit their needs.

Share Duties

This is the best way to get things done. You both should be involved every step of the way. Make a list of details to be taken care of, then divide the list in half. Each of you choose what you want to do. This will make grooms want to be involved, instead of making them feel like they have to help. Sure, your sweetie probably isn't concerned with exactly which flowers you carry. And maybe you're not picky about what tuxedos he and the guys wear (or maybe you are!). But involving your husband-to-be will make him feel that it's his wedding, too -- something he helped plan, not just something he has to show up at. Which brings us to...

Talk, Talk, Talk

We can't stress this enough. Be sure that if you're sharing duties that you're also sharing the details. It's okay to take care of certain things by yourself, just make sure you're telling each other about it so the caterer isn't contracted with twice!

Be Flexible

Okay. So you really didn't want the groom/ushers in those tails and top hats. And maybe he doesn't want the cake to be lemon with pecan icing (!). Each of you is going to want things that the other doesn't care for, but flexibility is a must. Be willing to bend. If you really object to something, let your objection be duly heard and noted. Just give the other person a chance to explain why he/she really wants to arrive at the reception in a hot tub in the back of the limo.

Details, Contracts, and Negotiations

When dealing with wedding professionals (caterers, florists, etc.), be sure to clarify all the details and your expectations during the initial discussions. Make sure you get a contract specifically stating dates, times, and locations. Be sure to include what you feel is appropriate dress, and what you feel isn't. Spell out everything. Try to negotiate the best deal for goods and services, but don't sell yourself short on important things just to get a better price.
Most importantly, be sure to read the fine print on every contract before you sign it, and make sure you're aware of cancellation policies and fees. Also ask if there's a grace period to cancel just in case you change your mind or something happens and you need to postpone the wedding (you never know).

Stay Organized

This one's pretty obvious! The more organized you are, the less chance there is that something will go wrong. Buy a notebook, and keep all your wedding information in it. Receipts, contracts, ideas -- everything. You might also want to get notebooks for your maid of honor/bridesmaids and the best man. Put info such as dates, times, locations, and duties. This will keep everyone organized as well, and minimize the chance of someone missing a fitting date or rehearsal time.
I found these helpful hints on TheKnot.com!

Happy Valentine's Day!!

So...Valentine's Day is here again! Isn't it great! I have to admit, even when I was a single gal I enjoyed this holiday! I know, I know..."it's a holiday made up by Hallmark as a ploy to have a boost in sales"....and "are you kidding, Happy Single's Awareness Day is more like it"... I got it, I've heard all the responses out there.  But while a lot of you may think Valentine's Day is just for lovers, think again. Valentine's Day actually has a true meaning! Check out the article below!  I think it's a truly great story!

Beyond the roses, chocolates and historical ties to a pagan fertility festival, you'll find the real meaning of Valentine's Day. It's the true love that compelled a young Christian to give up his life rather than stop sharing his faith.

Valentine's Day

When we think of Valentine's Day, we often think of red roses, candy in heart- shaped boxes, mushy valentines, and winged cherubs flying about shooting starry-eyed lovers with arrows.
But did you know that the origin of Valentine's Day, or Saint Valentine's Day, comes from the life and death of a Christian martyr? According to author Martha Zimmerman, the date traditionally celebrated as St. Valentine's Day finds it origin in the Roman festival of romance called Lupercalia, when the gods Juno and Pan were honored. It was a fertility festival or a lover's holiday looking forward to the return of Spring. In the fifth century, in an attempt to abolish the pagan festival, Pope Gelasius changed Lupercalia and its February 15 date to February 14 and called it Saint Valentine's Day. Even though the names and the date were changed, the emphasis continued to be on love.
Who was the real Valentine, and why did he have a day named after him?
Some authorities credit Geoffrey Chaucer with originating the custom of linking Valentine's Day with lovers. No link between the day and lovers exists before the time of Chaucer, thus leading some to conclude that it was this famous English author who connected the day with lovers. The fullest and earliest description of the tradition occurs in Chaucer's "Parliament of Fouls" composed around 1380. Since that time it has been traditional to connect St. Valentine's Day with love.
But who was the real Saint Valentine? St. Valentine was a Roman Christian who, according to tradition, was martyred during the persecution of Christians in the third century by Emperor Claudius II. The only thing certain about the day we remember as St. Valentine's Day is that it commemorates a martyrdom. Claudius II declared all Christians illegal citizens. By his definition, they were guilty of treason because Roman citizens were required by law to worship the Emperor by declaring publicly, "Caesar is Lord!" Of course, this no Christian could do.
The real Valentine was a Roman Christian martyred during the third century A.D. by the Emperor Claudius II. Prior to his death, Valentine continued to minister in prison by witnessing to his prison guards. One of the guards was a good man who had adopted a blind girl. He asked Valentine if his God could help his daughter. Valentine prayed and the girl was given her sight. The guard and his whole family, 46 people, believed in Jesus and were baptized. When the Emperor heard about this he was furious that Valentine was still making converts even in prison, so he sentenced Valentine to death.
Just before being led out to his execution, the young Christian wrote a note to the jailer's daughter, signing it, "From your Valentine." The first valentine was really a Christian witness. Growing out of this story we participate in a custom of sending cards to people we love.
Given that the tradition of sending love notes grows out of a letter written by St. Valentine to his jailer's daughter on the eve of Valentine's execution, it's ironic that the card we send has received the emphasis, instead of remembering the content of the original Valentine's card: a message of unconditional devotion to Christ, even upon pain of death.
Over time the word "Saint" has been dropped from St. Valentine's Day, further obscuring the origins of this holiday. Instead of a negative reaction to some of the pagan origins of the day, why not celebrate the true love that compelled young Valentine to give up his life?
Remember that the day we know as St. Valentine's Day actually commemorates the death of an early Christian martyr, Valentine, who was put to death for refusing to renounce his faith in Christ.
Instead of chubby cherubs, sappy cards, too much candy, and soon-wilted flowers, why not point your family toward the true significance of St. Valentine's Day this year?
By all means, celebrate the day, but re-inject it with Christian meaning by resolving to live for Jesus without fear or shame, following the godly example of Valentine's unconditional love for Christ.
How can you celebrate St. Valentine's Day in a way that honors the original Valentine, who was martyred for his devotion to God?
First, give your life to Christ.
Second, declare the truth about God's love even if it costs you something.
Third, become a servant to those you love, rather than demanding that your needs be met. According to pastor Alex Stevenson, we all want to hear the phrase, "Be my Valentine." It simply means "you are loved."
This Valentine's Day, remember that you are loved. God loves you and wants you to be His valentine. The love that God gives us is not like the world's love. The world's love is only as sturdy as a paper Valentine's card. But God's love is not a flimsy, cheap imitation: it is the real thing. It is an all-giving love that was and is willing to suffer and die for our deliverance.
Will you be God's valentine? It is your choice. Say yes and give to God the love He desires. And when you do, remember the first Valentine and how he gave everything, including his life, to the God he loved.

Inside Bulloch Business with Jan Moore - 'Wedding Walk' another good economic sign

Sometimes, it's all about having fun, and from what I can tell, this year's Statesboro Bride Wedding Walk was a ton of fun for those that attended and those who staged the event, as well.
This past Friday, the Downtown Statesboro Development Authority Held its second annual wedding walk, and it was a huge success according to the event's coordinator Shannon B. Edwards.
"Over 30 vendors participated, and our estimate is that more than 250 attended the event," Edwards said. "It began at the Quality Inn with vendor displays in the ballroom, and then moved to the Averitt Arts Center for cocktail hour and a bridal fashion show. The theater was full, and everyone was enjoying themselves."
I was very glad to hear that the participation for this year's event increased so much.
I am a believer in discretionary income spending as a bell weather for the economy (remember the Promdicator). According to Edwards, these brides came ready to make plans.
"Specifically, brides wanted to see what was available to them in Statesboro," she said. "We heard over and over again that they wanted to able to spend and plan locally, and frankly, many were very surprised at all Statesboro does have to offer. The vendors did a great job."
Edwards and her committee did not rely solely on social networking to get the message out to their prospective audience.  They employed what some marketing experts have coined as "gorilla marketing" tactics. They engaged brides-to-be and marital hopefuls on their home turf.
"A few days before the event, nine girls, including myself, dressed up in bridal gowns and got on the Blue Goose bus," she said. "The bus took us to restaurants all around town and the university, and we handed out flyers to the wedding walk. The response was very, very positive, and we saw a lot of university students there on Friday night. Many of them are engaged, or thinking about getting married, and this was just perfect for them."
You see, hopes springs eternal. In the face of daunting statistics regarding the stability of marriage in this country, many young women still want to get married, and are ready to enjoy all of the planning that goes with that.
Hats off to the DSDA for continuing to reach out to our community with fun, enjoyable events such as this one that benefit our local economy.
So, until next Tuesday, I bid you au revoir.

Always A Bridesmaid...

So...Hello world! This is me!! Shannon Edwards:  Statesboro Bride!  Well, not exactly a bride, yet... I'll get around to that one of these days!  The boy... that's him...Travis.  He's the one I'm still trying to reel in...or is it the other way around?  Let's go with he's trying to reel me in.  It sounds better!

So why am I writing this blog?  Well, I have been in 17 weddings...yes, you read right...17.  You know that saying "Always a bridesmaid...Never a bride?"  Yeah, I'm pretty sure that was written about me! Don't get me wrong...I loved every minute of all the weddings I have been a part of! From the planning and parties to walking down the isle and tossing the bouquet.  All of my girlfriends AND guyfriend's weddings have been a blessing!!  Something magical happens at weddings...you can see it, and feel it.  It's a time when you can actually get a true glimpse of what love looks like. It's almost like you can reach your hand out and touch it!

So while I am waiting for my very own prince charming to finally pop the question, I decided to give a little input on how to make your big day...bigger than you can imagine, show some of the latest trends in bridal decadence, give you a few tips and tricks to keeping that bank account happy, and much much more!

Thanks for following!!
